Since its launch in 2002, this project has been driving the development of a wood energy cluster in South Yorkshire. The initiative has been instrumental in creating a complete, sustainable supply and demand chain and convincing local authorities in the region to consider wood energy as a means of reducing carbon output.
Led by the South Yorkshire Forest this groundbreaking project brings partners from NW Europe together to demonstrate and quantify the link between landscape improvements and investment through a number of test sites. The resulting body of information will influence planning policy and strategic development.
The Wood & Woodlands team promote and support the important contribution of woodland to environment, wildlife, economy and community. The project supports woodland planting and management schemes, a network of local sustainable timber based industries as well as conservation, recreation and educational activities.
This five year programme seeks to reverse the decline of South Yorkshire’s unique network of ‘heritage woodlands’. The project aims to restore woodland management to benefit people and wildlife, improve access and interpret the history of the woods for the community and as an educational resource for schools.
The South Yorkshire Forest’s tree sponsorship scheme is a great way for individuals to contribute to the important work of increasing the region’s tree cover. Sponsors receive a certificate and an invite to a planting event. Pledge a tree for yourself or as a gift for a friend.
The Gift that Grows has branched out for businesses looking to address corporate social responsibility. This flexible tree sponsorship scheme can be used to help balance carbon emissions, reward clients and staff or as a team building activity.
A community based initiative bringing green health activities to residents of the South Yorkshire Forest. The project will initially employ dedicated green health workers in parts of Barnsley where public health has suffered due to industrial decline.
