Sheffield Town Trust has awarded £1000 to Tinsley Tree Project to help create a fantastic finale for the South Yorkshire Wood Fair.
The cash will be used to run woodland workshops with young people from Sheffield Youth Theatre and Abbeydale Grange Media School. Innovative theatre company Exponential will facilitate performance and film workshops in local woods in preparation for a dramatic finale at the Wood Fair.
The event, organised by the South Yorkshire Forest Partnership and Sheffield City Council, takes place on Saturday October 6th in Endcliffe Park.
Oak, beech, ash and yew are familiar to most of us as the trees that form the landscape of South Yorkshire, but are you familiar with the wonderful things that these diverse trees are used for? A new exhibition starts at the Winter Gardens in Sheffield this Friday (September 7th) to demonstrate exactly how varied and versatile our local woods – and woods – really are.
Funded by Objective 1 and co-ordinated by the South Yorkshire Forest Partnership, ‘The Woods of South Yorkshire’ exhibition brings together a fascinating collection of work from leading local sculptors and makers. “The exhibition will be of interest to a wide range of people as the work really shows how natural history meets art.” said curator Alistair Farr, “The pieces are all made from a wide range of different timbers – each one expressing the qualities of the particular wood used. To help people find and identify the trees the various woods come from we’ve also put together a free guide to the Woods of South Yorkshire.”
