Forestry Resource Grants
English Woodland Grant Scheme

Managing Existing Woodlands

This is one of the three elements of the Forestry Resources Grants and assists with improving the economic, environmental or social value of existing woodlands in South Yorkshire.

The FRG scheme has been very successful. As of July 2005, 1918 hectares of existing woodland had been awarded funding, with a number of applications in the pipeline. However, there is still a small amount of money left and applications for up to £400 will be considered.

What are the grants for?

Grants are being awarded to improve the economic, ecological and social value of existing woodlands in South Yorkshire. Woodlands provide a backdrop for communities throughout South Yorkshire. This grant will provide the opportunity for local people to enjoy, understand and benefit from the woodlands in their area. There are numerous woodlands in South Yorkshire that remain unproductive or under-utilised through neglect, isolation or the lack of resources required to bring them back into management. The aim of this grant is to assist owners and managers open up these woodlands and to encourage economic and ecological improvements.

We are interested in hearing from you over any project that you think may benefit the economic, community or environmental value of local woodland. For more information, contact South Yorkshire Forest Partnership and ask for an FRG applicants pack, or speak to Len Carr on 0114 2571199, or email len.carr@syforest.co.uk
