The woodlands of South Yorkshire are a valuable resource for people and nature. Ancient woodlands penetrate into the heart of our urban areas, creating shelter along exposed ridges, greening secluded valleys and softening harsh urban environments. Newer woodlands are greening spoil tips, landfill sites and other wastelands. Woodlands are increasingly playing a part in our local economy as better woodland management creates a market for wood for local crafts people and as fuel. The South Yorkshire Forest Partnership is promoting and coordinating activities which make our local woods better for people, for the economy and for wildlife.
