Gathering Winter Fuel

Anyone interested in heating their homes with wood and reducing their carbon footprint, should come to the Sawmill on Abbey Lane over the weekend of 27th – 28th between 11am and 4pm to see modern wood burning stoves and firewood processing equipment in action and of course stock up on winter fuel!

Beacons: The Fire Bird
20th October 5pm – 7pm
Parkwood Springs, Sheffield

With amazing views across the city, Parkwood Springs is one of Sheffield’s secret gems. It is also the subject of a huge regeneration scheme and one of the South Yorkshire Forest’s ‘Creating a Setting for Investment’ test sites. Community engagement is a key part of the regeneration project and a group of artists have been busy working with Sheffield City Council ranger Jon Dallow doing the engaging to spectacular effect! Come along and join storyteller Shonaleigh and pyrotechnic woodworkers Handspring Design for a wonderful story of fire, magic, riddles and reason.

South Yorkshire Wood Fair
October 6th, 11am – 7pm
Endcliffe Park, Sheffield

Don’t miss Wood Fair! With tree related activities, adventures and art, not to mention shopping, refreshments, entertainments and pyrotechnics, there’s something for everyone at this free event. A flyer can be downloaded from the home page.

Woods of South Yorkshire
September 7th – 24th, Winter Gardens, Sheffield

To celebrate the diversity of woodlands in South Yorkshire, and to illustrate the incredible versatility of timber from our native trees, the South Yorkshire Forest Partnership has coordinated this major exhibition. Leading local sculptors and furniture makers will exhibit work made from a range of different timbers, each object expressing the qualities of the particular wood used.

Sheffield Green Drinks
September 11th, 5.30 – 8pm
Carwood Close Biomass Boiler, Sheffield

South Yorkshire Forest Wood Energy Co-ordinator Robin Ridley will be giving a short presentation about the region’s developing wood fuel cluster. The talk will be followed by a visit to a pub for an informal discussion.
